When is the best time to visit Curaçao?

The short answer is: any month. Curaçao lies just outside the hurricane belt, about 65 km off the coast of Venezuela, and the temperature barely moves all year — around 27 to 32 °C by day and rarely below 24 °C at night. The differences between the seasons are about rain, wind, prices and crowds rather than sunshine.

The climate, month by month

• January – April: the dry season and the high season. Steady trade winds keep the heat comfortable, showers are rare and short, and the island is at its greenest after the autumn rains. Prices and demand are highest; book well ahead.
• May – August: warm, sunny and a little quieter, with the strongest trade winds in June and July. July and August are busy with families from the Netherlands and Europe during the school holidays. Sea temperatures are at their warmest.
• September – early December: the "rainy" season, which on Curaçao means a tropical shower in the night or early morning, followed by sun. Winds are lighter, so it feels hotter and more humid. This is the quietest, best-value time to come, and the sea is calm and clear.

Rain totals are small — the island is semi-arid, with cacti and divi-divi trees — and a rainy day that spoils your holiday is unusual. Hurricanes occasionally pass to the north and bring swell or a wet day, but direct hits are historically rare.

• Carnival (January – February or March): weeks of jump-ups and parades, peaking with the Gran Marcha on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday and the Farewell Parade on Tuesday night.
