The location
Jan Thiel is where Curaçao comes to swim, eat and watch the sun go down. Vista Royal is the leafy residential neighbourhood just behind it — close enough to walk to the beach, far enough to hear only the wind in the palms.
From the villa it is a ten-minute stroll downhill to Jan Thiel beach, with its beach clubs, dive centre, tennis courts and a row of restaurants and bars. Supermarkets, a pharmacy and bakeries are a five-minute drive away, and the colourful waterfront of Willemstad — a UNESCO World Heritage site — is about fifteen minutes by car.
The south-east of the island is the sheltered side: calm, clear water, steady trade winds and sunshine almost every day of the year. Caracasbaai, the Spanish Water lagoon and Mambo Beach are all within ten minutes, and the whole island — from the west-coast beaches to Klein Curaçao — is an easy day trip.
Curaçao International Airport (Hato) is a 25-minute drive. Most guests pick up a hire car at the airport; we send precise directions and the gate code before your arrival. A taxi from the airport to Jan Thiel takes about the same time.
The location
Distances are from the front gate, by car unless stated otherwise.
10 minutes on foot. Beach clubs, restaurants, dive school, water sports and sunset drinks.
10 minutes. Snorkelling over a shallow shipwreck, Fort Beekenburg and a beach with barbecue shacks.
5 minutes. A sheltered lagoon for sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddling, lined with marinas.
10 minutes. A long sandy beach with shops and cafés, next to the Curaçao Sea Aquarium.
15 minutes. Punda, Otrobanda, the Handelskade and the floating Queen Emma bridge.
25 minutes. A hire car is the easiest way to explore the island; we can recommend rental companies.
